What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an advanced orthodontic system that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment. These aligners are made from a smooth, BPA-free plastic and are designed to fit snugly over your teeth.
Each set of aligners is worn for about 1–2 weeks before moving to the next set in the series. Over time, your teeth are gently repositioned to create a straighter, more balanced smile.
Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are:
- Nearly invisible when worn
- Removable for meals, brushing, and flossing
- Custom-made for precision and comfort
- Smooth, with no wires or brackets to irritate your cheeks
What Can Invisalign Treat?
Invisalign is effective for a wide range of orthodontic concerns in both teens and adults. Dr. Brandon Mizner may recommend Invisalign to address:
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps or spacing between teeth
- Overbite, underbite, or crossbite
- Mild to moderate bite misalignment
- Relapse from previous orthodontic treatment
During your consultation, we’ll assess your bite, take digital scans, and determine if Invisalign is the right solution for your needs — or if traditional braces may be a better fit.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Here’s how Invisalign compares to metal braces:
- Appearance: Invisalign uses clear, nearly invisible aligners, while traditional braces involve visible metal brackets and wires.
- Comfort: Invisalign aligners are smooth and custom-fitted, reducing irritation. Metal braces may cause discomfort due to wires and brackets.
- Eating and Drinking: Aligners are removed during meals, so there are no dietary restrictions. Braces require avoiding sticky, hard, or chewy foods.
- Oral Hygiene: You can brush and floss normally with Invisalign. Braces require extra tools and steps to clean around brackets and wires.
- Checkups: Invisalign requires fewer and shorter appointments, typically every 6–8 weeks. Braces need more frequent visits for tightening and adjustments.
What to Expect: Your Invisalign Journey
At Mizner Family Dental, we make the Invisalign process smooth, personalized, and supportive. Here’s how it works:
- Consultation and Digital Scan
We start with a complete exam and iTero digital impressions — no gooey trays or mess. Using this scan, we create a 3D model of your smile and preview your projected results. - Custom Treatment Plan
Dr. Mizner will map out your tooth movements step-by-step and send the plan to Invisalign to create your custom aligners. - Aligner Delivery and Instructions
Once your aligners arrive, we’ll make sure they fit comfortably and review how to wear, clean, and care for them. - Ongoing Progress and Check-ins
You’ll wear your aligners 20–22 hours per day and switch sets as directed. We’ll schedule brief visits every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress and make any needed adjustments. - Completion and Retention
Once treatment is complete, we’ll provide a custom retainer to maintain your new smile and prevent shifting.
Invisalign for Teens and Adults
We provide Invisalign treatment for both adults and responsible teens. Many younger patients appreciate the discreet look and ability to remove the aligners for special events or sports. For teens, compliance indicators may be added to ensure aligners are worn as recommended.
As part of our full-service cosmetic dentistry and general dentistry offerings, Invisalign can be paired with other treatments like teeth whitening, cleanings, and fillings to help you achieve both health and confidence.
